Structural Engineering vs. Civil Engineering

While i was touring an engineering firm, i learned that the majority were structural engineers, and what they were doing sounded appealing to me. However, there are very few colleges with structural engineering majors (none of which i applied to)... i was wondering if you got a civil engineering degree, if that is similar to structural engineering or if civil eng. only work on high ways, bridges, etc. I just was wondering if there is any way to become a structural engineer through a school like MIT or RPI which do not have a "structural engineer" major.

also what do you do after you get a bs in engineering (either civil or structural)....do most go on to a master's or due they begin their internship to get certified.

Structural engineering is a concentration within civil engineering.

For structural engineering, it’s usually highly recommended that you get your MS immediately after your undergrad as it will open up many more opportunities.

I believe it will be better for your career if you go for a bachelor in civil engineering and a MS concentrating in structural engineering.
