Hey there. Recently I've been trying to decide which school should I apply early. I was finally down to 2 schools : Wellesley and Middlebury . To tell the truth, I know their difference, and I love both of them -- I'll be the luckiest person in the world if I were accpeted by any of the two.

So... I really want to hear some views: will a person like me feel happy and comfortable in Middlebury (or Welleley)? Early Decision is quite a big step to take. Here's a simple profile:

international student, female(duh), heterosexual(with absolutely no discrimination against any sexual preferences);
SAT reasoning: math800, reading760, writing720; SAT subject test: math II800, Chem800, Physics800; decent academics; student councilor in high school;
haven't decided about major(although I may look like a science geek from my SATs), want to try everything before making the decision;
personality: hardworking, kinda gentle, but I really want to become a more outspoken person

Can I find a place and make real friends in Wellesley?

My feeling is that if you are struggling to figure out which school you should apply ED to, then you shouldn’t apply ED at all. There is no such thing as “which” for ED, it’s “I want this one and I know I want this one and I am willing to apply only here and nowhere else”.

definitley agree. I think its best always to be wary of ED programs. I´ve had friends who were really sure, got in ED, and then still regretted not being able to feel like they had a choice.

Look into that Wellsley program-that´s-name-currently-escapes-me where they send you a likely letter earlier but you´re not bound to go there.

I think that given your stats, you probably do not need to heavily rely on ED as a way to boost your chances of getting in, so like those above said, unless you are 100% sure, I would just apply regular to both (and the rest of your schools). Early Evaluation would be a good route to take for Wellesley. Also, Midd has EDII, so if you end up deciding that IS where you want to be later on this fall, you still have that option.

P.S. Part of the reason I chose to attend Wellesley over Hamilton (similar in size/stereotype to Midd) is that I, too, wanted to become more outspoken and confident in myself, and I really felt the environment at Wellesley fosters that–I think it brings out the best in every student in every way–emotionally, academically, personally, etc. But both schools are great!

if you aren’t positive which school you want to apply to ED then just apply RD. ED is meant for people who are 110% positive they want to go to that school - not just to boost their acceptance chances…
