Struggling in college. Really need help...

Hey, everyone. I'm a second year engineering major at a UC, and I've kind of hit an all-time low. I've been doing pretty badly academically, barely passing my math and failing practically all of my physics classes. I've been warned about my poor academic performance and have been given the option to change majors assuming I maintain above a 2.0 GPA until my transition to a new major is completed.

However, I was given this notification late in the quarter (around Week 4 of 10), and it was already too late to change my schedule. I failed my Physics final and I did decently on math, but I'm afraid I might be kicked out due to my F in Physics.

I'm troubled on what to do next. I was planning on sticking around and continuing my education under an Economics major or something, but the possibility of me being kicked out at the end of the quarter brought me to a new realization: should I just drop out, take CC classes to avoid the hefty UC tuition, and re-enroll in a university? Or if prompted to leave, should I appeal and continue my education at a UC under a new major? I'm really lost, and it's been bugging me over the past few weeks, and I'd really like some advice.

I think you should step back and take a moment to rethink things. Spend the spring at a CC and get a handle on your classwork. Build up your confidence in the spring, enjoy your summer, and then next fall give it another go. Community colleges are really an amazing option, and people don’t give them a fair wrap.

I just received an email a week into the quarter stating that I will be disqualified unless I appeal. My overall GPA is around a 1.85 as of the end of Fall quarter. The classes I’m currently taking are really easy GEs to hopefully get my GPA up, but I’m not sure if I’ll even have the chance to do that since I may be let go this quarter.

Is that possible? I mean, notifying me a week into the quarter that I will be disqualified from the university, rather then over winter break? Or will they let me continue until the Spring quarter, and reassess my performance then?
