Struggling in School!

I’m in 10th grade and i am REALLY struggling in a few of my classes and i’m having trouble getting homework done.
My schedule is :
ACT Prep(Required)
Pre-AP English 10
Spanish 2
Pre-AP Chemistry
Pre-AP US History I
Concert Band
Foundations of Health Science
Pre-AP Algebra 2 w/Trig
Marching Band(Practices 3 to 4 hours a day 4 days a week, games Fridays, and competitions all day Saturday)
(Pre-AP classes are required prerequisites for AP classes)

The main classes i am struggling in are Chemistry and Algebra 2 w/Trig. On my First Chemistry test i made a 65. On my first math test i made a 65 then on my 2nd i made a 75. In Chemistry my average is 89 and in Algebra 2 my average is 82.

In Chemistry I understand the concepts and can apply them in class but then i can’t on the test. In class we will work with extremely easy examples then on the test everything is more complex than what we worked on in class.

In Algebra 2 I understand everything really well, but the teacher is crazy hard when grading the test. She doesn’t give any partial credit EVER, if you skip a step working out a problem it’s marked wrong, if you do a problem differently then the way she taught it, it’s marked wrong, and if you have to give a definition or explain something and you don’t write the exact same thing she told you it’s wrong.

I went to talk to my guidance counselor about what i should do and she just said “Get a tutor”, Will a tutor help get from a B to an A, and is a tutor worth it?

I am also struggling with trying to find time to do my homework. I end up not having time to finish it all after school, then i work on it the next day in school, which ends up hurting my grades even more. My school day is from 7:30 to 3:05, then i don’t get home from marching band practice till 6 to 7PM, on game days i get home around Midnight, and after competitions i get home around 2AM. It’s hard to find time to do the CRAZY amount of homework my teachers are assigning and get enough sleep to function the next day. Does anyone have any advice for finding time for homework? Can anyone who has been in my situation tell me what you did?

I know my sophomore schedule seems easy compared to other student posting on here but it is hard for me(and considered extremely hard at my school).

Agree that you should consider hiring a tutor for math & chemistry.

Consider giving up marching band if you do not have enough time for homework.

Public universities tend to place great weight on course difficulty, GPA &, sometimes, class rank. ECs such as marching band are unlikely to help with college admissions–certainly not as much as a high GPA.
