I’ve been growing my AP/Honors classes since Freshmen year and now I feel like it’s very difficult finding time to do all the work and catch up on sleep. The two classes I’m struggling in right now is APUSH and AP Lang. I haven’t even come close to passing my last 2 APUSH quizzes on Time Period 1&2. Does anyone have a certain schedule they pursue after school to make life easier/less stressful?
I’m taking regular chemistry also which I feel isn’t teaching enough detail order for me to understand the concepts {That’s a whole other topic}.
I try to use whatever spare time on during the day to do homework - the last half of my lunch period (we get 40 mins), a little in between classes, etc.
You should leave a little time for other stuff, too, like socializing, but make sure you aren’t losing track of time. If ECs take too much time, maybe you should try to focus only on the ones that are most important to you.
When I start my homework after school (usually in the evening) I try to get it done without wasting time on social media, or texting friends (unless I need to ask a question).
Also, I usually spend some time working ahead on the weekends to make my life easier during the week - occasionally I may study for a test two weekends in advance. It could be helpful if you started reviewing material for the upcoming week’s classes on the weekends. It really takes the load off for me on school nights because most of the studying has already been finished.
For science classes, I usually just take notes during class and fill in the gaps by reviewing the section in the textbook in the evening. For a Physics class, my teacher required us to go back into the book and read, which I found extremely helpful. (she was a pretty good teacher, but it helped nonetheless). Watching videos on Khan Academy might help you as well. I find that doing as many problems as possible is the best way for me to understand the material.
APUSH is a very demanding class at most schools. I don’t think there is any way around it being a lot of time, and I think a lot of kids just aren’t prepared for how much more work it is than prior classes they may have taken, though many kids take AP world history the year prior and get used to the requirements then. Yes, you should expect to do a lot of work on weekends. My kid does everything she can for the coming week on the weekend.
