I recently got accepted to both of my top schools, Frost at UMiami and the Berklee College of Music. Now I’m stuck making the difficult choice between the two. I feel like Berklee has a far better scene and community, but that some students are not as competitive. Frost seems to be “harder” in terms of faculty, but not as musically diverse as Berklee. Can anyone share their thoughts?
I’m not sure what your goals are or what you plan to study but here are some thoughts. The reputation of berklee is that it is very strong for building a network, meeting other musicians to play with and work with in the future, but that while on campus, you will likely need to be highly self-directed and create many of your own opportunities.
A couple things to consider between the two schools, would you prefer a traditional college/campus experience (frost) or living in the heart of the city of Boston?
Do you have any interest in studying other academic subjects (frost would win here) or more varied music classes (check the course guide but I’d imagine berklee might have more varied music course offerings)?
Depending on what you’re studying, the specific teacher(s) could be an important factor.
I’m assuming the cost will be similar for you between the two, otherwise that could be a large consideration.
What’s the net cost at each and how does that compare to what your parents can pay out of pocket?
What are your goals professionally?
Hello Bassman02,
