Hey guys, so I am now stuck with two options. I got into both UCSB and Cal Poly SLO. At UCSB, I got in for chemistry, but I really wanted to study chemical engineering. At Cal Poly SLO, since they don't have chemical engineering, I got into materials engineering. I tried to request a major change to chemical engineering at UCSB, but I have to wait several more days to see if I can get in. Also, if my major change request does not go through, does anyone know how easy it would be to change from chemistry to chemical engineering while at UCSB? I am torn between these two options, but luckily I still have about a month to decide.

Why would you goto Cal Poly if your interest is in Chemical Engineering. Goto Santa Barbara and transfer internally to engineering college. You probably need around 3.0 GPA>

At many schools it is hard, if not almost impossible, to transfer into engineering primarily because students on an engineering track start taking classes in that area starting first semester freshman year. And a lot of engineering classes are sequential. If the transfer you asked for now at UCSB doesn’t pan out, you should not assume you’d get in the engineering program down the road. You would have to do a lot of research to see if an internal transfer down the line into engineering would even be a possibility.
