Ok so I wanna apply to cal poly slo and major in chemical engineering. However I heard it is harder to get in because since it is an engineerig school people majoring in engineering will be smarter and make it harder to get in. If true can you apply as a different major then switch??? Is that possible or true??? Is it like his at other schools too? Please help I am very confused

Cal Poly doesn’t offer Chemical Engineering.

For changing into engineering, you can read COE’s website regarding the topic:
[College of Engineering Advising Center - Changing Majors](http://eadvise.calpoly.edu/dept/major.php)

i wouldn’t try to change majors at cal poly. They are very strict about that. My sister tried to change majors, into a non-impacted one at that, and it took over a year to completely change majors.

Changing major within the same college is easier than inter-college major change.

So if you are changing engineering majors within college of engineering will be relatively straight forward as long as your grades are fair. Changing from college of agriculture to college of engineering, such as Agri. Business major to Electrical engineering will be a challenge no doubt.

So if you really want to go to Cal Poly, pick an engineering major like Material engineering, which is the closest to chemical engineering.

By the way, Cal Poly Pomona has chemical engineering.

In the College of Engineering you CANNOT CHANGE MAJOR if, when you complete your new major, you will have more than 24 excess units. Realistically this means you can’t change after halfway through your second year.

See http://eadvise.calpoly.edu

@Collegeboy3535 no do not listen to these people… you can change majors at Cal Poly. The only thing is that you have to show that you have excellent grades in that major to begin with, and that you have an EXTREME interest in that other major. You must also maintain a certain GPA when you change to the other major. BUT the other people ARE right on certain aspects. It is nearly impossible to change your major into any kind of engineering. Cal Poly is ranked in the top 5 schools in the nation for engineering so it will be very difficult.
