I just took an ACT practice test only to find that to my frustration my 1480 sat score corresponds with my 21 ACT score. I have been trying to study for the sats all summer and have seen no improvement, and being that college apps are coming up, I’m getting really anxious that I won’t improve enough to get a 1600, let along a 1500. I have tried looking at tips in books like grubers and barons, taking practice tests and reviewing my incorrect answers, but nothing is helping. I know that there is no magic pill, but I just need somebody to help me look at this from a different light in terms of alternative methods to use or how they improved after feeling “stuck.”
Test optional schools
Im no expert, but how about getting a hold of Pwn the SAT Math (book) and studying the heck out of it. That should assumedly up your math score enough to hit the 1600s (I’m guessing)
Thanks, I’ll look into those.
Try Erica’s grammar book. You WILL see an improvement after that! (note that it doesn’t include the essay)
I’d say that if you want a 1600 as soon as possible, leave the critical reading section and work with math and writing as those are easier to improve in drastically.
How many practice tests have you been taking? I went from 1440 in June to 1820 and still going up. All I have been doing was taking practice tests. 5 practice tests won’t cut it. It took me at least 7 Math practice tests before my Math score cleared the high 400s and into the low and mid 500s. And it took even more practice tests to clear the 580-610 range. You can DEFINETLY get 1500-1600. Instead of worrying about raising your whole SAT score as a whole, focus on bringing up your score from each section. Divide and conquer is the way to beat the SAT>
@BethanyD the math section is easier than critical reading? I’ve never heard that before, then again I do end up making a lot of careles mistakes on on the CR section. I probably would have switched to working on my writing section if the colleges I was planning on attending considered them.
@cptjosh787 Thanks. I’ll be honest I’ve taken around 5, or 6 practice tests for both math and CR, so I guess that isn’t enough.
Also, what do you guys think about the SAT Black Book, have any of you used it?
Generally yes, but you might be different. I personally find math the easiest of the three to improve in. If you believe you can improve in critical reading faster (though it’s also generally not the case), then go ahead.
