Student Advantage card

I just got something in the mail today about care packages and the student advantage card. Is it worth getting this card?

Sorry, I don’t know about the card you are talking about, but I have received mail about $200 sheet sets and computer back up plans and a combo fridge/freezer/microwave for rent for $200 bucks a year.

anybody try any of that stuff? Thanks

Avoid all of these things, you can find them all cheaper elsewhere.

As far as the student advantage card, it is basically worthless. There are no local discounts. The only potential use is for Amtrak, but the same discount applies to AAA members.

Amtrak also has a student discount.

DD has benefited from the Amtrak Student Advantage card (coming home to NY, plus visiting friends in DC and Philly). The Newark Amtrak station is a bit of a challenge, but we are dealing. Wilmington is workable too (esp if you can get a ride there).

Regarding the mailings re: sending packages to students (food for studying, etc.), I think it is way more cost-effective and obviously more customized if you do put it together and send it yourself.

This is off-topic, but if any of you are from the NY area, definitely check out Catch a Ride for easy transportation for breaks - sometimes, you just dontfeel like driving the NJ Turnpike there and back! Here’s the website: [Home - Catch-A-Ride](CollegeCoachBus)

I second LINYMom’s recommendation of catch-a-ride. It’s been a great blessing to us several times.
