<p>It’s a totally legit discount program. If your nephew will be traveling periodically on Amtrak, the card saves !5% off fares, so can pay for itself very quickly. The rest of the discounts are described on the website–they may or may not be worthwhile, and of course the student has to remember to use the card. My D travels to and from college via Amtrak, so the card has been very valuable for us, though she hasn’t used it for anything else. Her college provides the card at a discount, $45 for 4 years–other schools may do this, so it’s worth checking out before buying one.</p>
<p>It’s a good deal. My son gets a nice discount on Greyhound.</p>
