Hey ya'll! My son just committed to Clemson University, both his father and I are alumni from Clemson(father played football). His father knows how the campus has changed over the years, and wants to know how assessable(talking to/hanging out with non-athletes) are the student-athletes, to the rest of the student body now a'days?

Long question short: Is it easy to interact with the athletes(football/basketball/baseball) on campus?

I think because of the team chemistry and crazy hours that the athletes put into study hall, practice and other team related activities that athletes tend to hang out with each other but if your son wants to branch out and engage in non-athletic activities on campus such as events or student organizations, there are a good number of people who do that as well! I was a non-athlete and I got to know a couple baseball/basketball/football/soccer players etc… in activities outside of athletics (when I went on the FCA spring break service trip to Memphis my freshman year, our group leader was the punter for the football team for example. I met another football player who was in a fraternity and I’ve seen Tajh Boyd/Dwayne Allen hanging out at baseball games). I don’t know how it compares to other schools but I think there’s a fair number of interactions between athletes and non-athletes. Of course athletes on a whole are a small percentage of the student population (1-2% probably when you’re talking about 20,000 students) but it seems the majority are involved in activities not related with athletics.
