What are the best options for banking for students at Tulane?

Whitney Nat’l Bank has a branch on campus in the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life

[Tulane University - Whitney National Bank](http://tulane.edu/studentaffairs/tom/services/whitney.cfm)

I would go with Chase. Some of my friends had horror stories with Whitney, though Whitney has a branch on campus (Chase, Capital One, and Whitney all have ATM machines in the LBC). Also, some of my friends had issues with Whitney for the simple fact that it’s a regional bank which made it more difficult for them to receive money from their parents.

I second Nashville Thomas. DD was told Whitney or Chase. Went with Chase as they are here at home too so parents can go deposit money whenever they wish :)

We use Capital One. I deposit here and my S withdraws at the ATM in the LBC. Never a problem. Never an ATM fee.

Looks like Chase acquired WaMu at the right time to save me some ATM fees. :)

personally i am going with whitney bank. i want to support a local one and i see their ATMS everywhere, especially uptown.

Are there any updates on banking options info? The views here are two years old and a lot has changed in the banking world since then.

As far as I know it is pretty much still the same. Whitney merged with another bank, but it wasn’t one of the huge national banks, so I don’t think it really changed anything.

We had success with a different way. Our famly uses a credit union for our banking. Most credit unions are members of a national network and allow each other’s members to share facilities. My son used the Tulane-Loyola Employee Credit Union facilities and never had any problems and did not have to open an account at school. I think the branch is at Loyola and there are a few atm’s around NOLA. It is a bit less convenient than using the ATMs at LBC though.

It’s the same. 3 ATMs in LBC – Whitney, Chase and I think Capital One. Whitney has a branch in LBC and the other two have branches nearby.

BTW, my D has been perfectly happy at Whitney, but then we live in a place where there are no Chase or Capital One branches, so it isn’t like we could coordinate that way anyway. Certainly I see nice advantages to picking one of those two IF you can also bank there at home, making transfers easy.

My son had an account at Whitney and that worked pretty well, but for those of you who might actually be from Tennessee, First Tennessee waives all foreign atm fees for withdrawals from any atm nationwide if you carry an aggregate balance in all of your accounts of I think $8,000. I realize this applies to only a small percentage of CC readers, but I thought I would share this just in case. It has been a great asset since my son never seemed to be where a Whitney atm was when he was off campus.

Has anyone tried using Ally Bank or another online bank?

What is their ATM policy?

If anyone is eligible for USAA, they are great. With a joint account you can transfer money instantly to your child, they can use any ATM as USAA reimburses for fees, and your child can scan in checks to deposit or deposit using an iPhone.
