Did anyone sign up for the student care packages? We received an ad in the mail and my mother-in-law wanted to send my daughter the care packages as a gift. The first was supposed to arrive shortly after my d arrived at school but no gift has come as of yet.

Did anyone else order a student care package and has it arrived yet?

We don't have the phone number anymore but the gift was paid for by credit card.

I have the paperwork. No phone number is listed. It is a project of the USC Residential Government. I suggest you ask your mother-in-law to call the credit card company and see if the charge was placed. Maybe the form was lost in the mail. If it was charged, see if you can find the USC Residential Government phone number at the university. Let me know if you need the address in New Jersey where you mailed the form. I did not order as some of the foods are not good for my son's braces and I don't want him eating a lot of pizza.

Case may be solved. I called the company (OCM Care Package) and they said that the package should arrive today or tomorrow. The phone number is: 800 892 8741 for anyone else who has questions.

My daughter got her care package yesterday. Not sure when it arrived because yesterday was the first day she located/checked her mail box.

She sad it was a "ridiculous" amount of food. Told her mom she cold hold off on the cookies she requested the day before. She was also happy with the mug they sent and the hot drink mixes.

We only used priority mail boxes & stuffed them with things we know S loves. It went over quite well.
Priority mail boxes are much cheaper than the boxes USC offers. They offer them during exam week as well. I think they also offer them around holidays. S said to save our money, especially when it was near breaks & we would be heading off campus anyway.

I visited my daughter as USC today and I was surprised at how tiny the care package was.....one could easily buy the treats and mail them for half the price. 'Course this did save time. (And my mother-in-law wanted to do this as a back to school gift).

Yea, my S was "underwhelmed" by the Care Packages he was aware other students got & preferred the things I stuffed into his personalized box; thanks for the affirmation about his take on them. I think D will be even more interested in getting care packages than S. We shall see.

I think some of profits for the boxes are supposed to benefit USC, but probably only after a huge portion is taken by the marketer who thought up the concept.

If you have some time, just browse the aisles at Target or Costco for custom goodies, like beef jerky or those cereals in their own tubs--just add milk, or teabags and honey. We thought about the Care Packages but realized our S wouldn't eat half the items anyway. It is convenient to have them take care of shopping, packing and shipping it, though!

I am not sure what to send my son in a care package. I don't want to send him high calorie snacks and he can't eat sticky foods (popcorn, sticky granola bars, etc.). Any ideas? I thought he would enjoy reading articles from the local newspaper that might be of interest, if I can find anything. Madbean-great idea to check the aisles at Target tomorrow if I see anything to buy him in gourmet foods.

i didn't know what to send him in his care package either, and it has to be worth it as postage is expensive. Also, I don't know how long it will take (from Canada, some of our mail has taken over 2 weeks from the States) and wonder if it'll get there the same time as we arrive for Parents weekend.

Instant beverage mixes are nice. I also sent articles of clothing from home that he has trouble getting at USC--rubber slippers. Favorite foods that travel well & don't get stale or melt are also nice. My S also likes some snack foods he can share with others. There have been lots of other threads about this--something cute & funny (unbreakable mug) can also be nice.
