I have some questions about getting a job at Penn as a freshman. What kind of jobs are available and is it difficult to balance a job and the course load?

bump because I’m interested in this too.
also does anyone know if we apply for jobs in advance or wait until we get on campus?

Bump I’m curious as well!

Bump. Also, are jobs like lab assistants not available to freshmen?

You have generic gruntwork jobs, manning the front desks, tech support, making copies, etc. If you have a specific skillset, they might offer you a job eg. I was offered a job working the climbing wall at the gym. It’s not hard getting one, some you apply to before school starts and some you apply once you get there. Handling courseload is entirely up to you, I think jobs start at like 5 hours a week and go from there.

Lab assistant jobs usually require you emailing the prof and being like “hey waddup can I work in your lab” and if they need a spot they’re usually okay with giving them to freshmen. You normally wait till second semester at least to do that because first semester you’re just figuring **** out but I mean if you really want to…
