I know it’s a great thing to have for college apps but I generally do not like my school’s student government. It’s full with a lot of popular people and most of the elections are won based on popularity. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?
I think most high schools in history have experienced that at one time or another. Fortunately, now more than ever, there is a world of opportunities in which to experience, learn, practice, and to showcase your talents and interests, whatever they may be. Wandering off the beaten path does tend to make for interesting college essays!
It’s not just you; it’s that way at a lot of high schools. Find an activity you enjoy doing and can stick with.
Doing extracurriculars simply to add it to your application is not what colleges are looking for. They are looking for you to do an activity that you enjoy, and if possible, excel at.
Find an activity that you like doing and run with it. If you do not like student government, don’t do it.
There is zero need to do student government. Why do it if you don’t like it? Student government is simply an activity like any other activity. Colleges don’t have a hierarchical list of activities but rather they want you to show them what makes you passionate.
