Please don’t get a lanyard. It looks really bad and people give freshmen a hard time for it. A wallet is much better. Also, chances are that you will be much more careful about not losing your wallet as opposed to not losing your lanyard.

Front pocket for me, all the time. Need it accessible for food, room access, lab access, etc. at all times.

Plus it allows for the blind pocket check. Feel right front pocket for phone, back for wallet, and left front for card for quick reassurance.

I’ve seen alot of ways.
Some just stick it in their pocket. (Wouldn’t recommend)

I keep mine in my wallet.

A third option involves the bookstore. I know that some sell a plastic holder that can hook on to a key-chain, or something that you can wear around your neck, or carry.

Sometimes people punch a hole in the card and attach something they can hang the card with, similar to the above.

Wallet…or a lanyard if you prefer that.

My ID lived on my lanyard, but I’ve been trying to figure out how to carry it for easy access instead of the lanyard. I mean, I’ve never heard of anyone being teased for having one at my school, but still.

I’m just hesitant to put it in a wallet because I’d have to pull it out so much, and I usually keep my wallet in my room where it’s less likely to fall out of a bag. (I usually don’t need it when I’m out on campus and it provides an excuse to not buy things people might be selling that I don’t want.)
Plus it seems like a hassle to pull the ID out of my wallet to be scanned for meals.
But maybe I’m just lazy.

For the record, my lanyard was usually in a jacket pocket or in my backpack, only around my neck if I was in a rush or just going somewhere fast or in my dorm.

Thanks for all the quick responses, they are greatly appreciated! I had no idea, as a parent, that the “lanyard” was generally viewed as un-hip or un-cool and screams “new freshman”!!! Guess I forgot about those image concerns being that I’m middle aged! Lol. I also thought that really was how so many college kids kept track of their ID. It seems the wallet is may be the way to go. Thanks for all the suggestions and perspectives on one of the many tiny little details that fill my thoughts as I prepare DS for college life!

No wait, but what if you keep it on a lanyard and keep the lanyard in your pocket?

that should be fine right?

How do you keep it from getting wet? My ID has a magnetic strip on the back of it, are you sure the water won’t damage it in any way?

I just kept mine in my wallet. Took it to the shower, and nothing ever happened to it.

I kept my ID in my shower basket thing whenever I showered in the dorms for a year, and it got plenty wet. Magnetic strip still works fine two years later, so I wouldn’t be worried.

I always stick it in my pocket. -shrug-

Wallet definitely. You wouldn’t want him getting teased for wearing it on a lanyard around his neck, no matter how convenient it is.

Im sorry but this question seems sort of dumb…
Doesn’t ever student and adult and all in between keep any sort of ID in their wallet …? Or did I miss something

In a pocket protector?

I always put my Student ID Card in my wallet.

Yeah he should just leave it in his wallet. You take that everywhere with you anyways so it works perfectly…On a side note 20 dollars? At my school its 15 to replace it.

At my school, it’s $65 to replace it. So be happy.
