student record for grad school application

I accidentally torrented a movie and got caught by school. I think I started the download at home and forgot to turn it off. Now I have to meet with a student conduct officer and it is going to be in my student record. I want to know how is it going to affect my grad school application? Do grad schools ask for this kind of record? Do I have to mention it in my application? Thank you.

Seems rather trivial, and though I’m not a faculty member or someone who would be involved in grad school admission, I can’t imagine something like this would pose a problem. I know several people with considerably worse offenses who made it into grad school.

I am a faculty member who makes these kinds of decisions and I am not sure it would even be on the radar unless the transcript has it in bold letters. That is rather unlikely since this is not an academic offense.

Thank you both for answering. I also want to know if the grad school would ask for these records. Do I need to mention it in my application? Thanks!

No, they won’t ask. No, you don’t need to mention it. If they DO ask for it and you have not included it, you will not get in trouble for it.

I agree with @cosmicfish. No one will ask.
