What do these e-mails from colleges base the "hard work" and "excellence" on? GPA?

If you get these messages it means you are doing well, but normally you will only get these from schools where you would be above their average levels. The really good schools don't need to send these emails out to get the top students.

Mostly just from psat scores. But I did get some emails from columbia/duke/rice/nyu

yeah i don't really know what to make of these emails either... i got a fairly decent psat (223) but i got ones ranging from the good (duke, columbia, rice, nyu, weselyan, caltech) to the not so good (university of the pacific, and other ones i've never heard of)...

maybe it also has to do with other scores in subject tests or SAT I???

i think they send the emails to everyone. i did way worse than lemons on the psat and i still got emails from the same schools

They just look at whether or not you checked the box whenever you took a collegeboard test, and then they just send out random stuff for publicity to people within a certain range I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they only ask you to check the box to receive stuff on the PSAT.

Lol I got a letter from WashU telling me to apply for the Dean's Scholarship which is a full ride. Do they just send this to every1? I got 99th percentile in everything on my PSAT.

I got some emails from like Notre Dame and Wake Forest and NYU, but not interesteddd =)

Middlebury = life
