<p>The legislature passed and the Governor signed a budget that repeals the Governor's Scholarship funding. This is the money that goes to valedictorians and STAR students who attend Georgia colleges/universities.</p>
<p>This means that these students will lose $900 a year.</p>
<p>Also they cut the GTEG apprx $170 a year, which affects all Georgia students going to private schools in Georgia. </p>
<p>We got the letter last week. It makes me angry that they can just discontinue the money on awards that have already been made. The letter was very brief - basically they just said “too bad, make other arrangements.”</p>

<p>My first mention of the GTEG should have been worded better. </p>
<p>Yes, I know several local kids who are being hurt by the scholarhip cuts. They counted on that money to help pay their expenses not covered by HOPE at state schools. Some are in their final couple of years in school and it is going to hurt them.</p>
<p>We were counting on that money as part of our scholarship funding. Since it was a merit scholarship, we had put it into the “safe money” category. Stupid us. :(</p>
