I am looking for someone who can comment on these to programs at Denison. My D is looking for a liberal arts school.

DD1 has studio art as her minor (English as her major). What would you like to know?

D is currently a junior and attends a boarding school. She is a rare combination of the artsy/athletic kid. She would like to play Division III sports and it very interested in photography and film. However, she is a solid B student and will not be topping the chart on the ACT. So I guess I would like to know if the art program is good in these areas and whether or not a B student can get in Denison and/or survive there.

A B student can get in and survive. That is not DD but she has to work to maintain her scholarship, particularly since she is majoring and minoring. The studio art program seems to be good but time intensive. DD took pottery (I think) this semester which called for extra time working near the kiln. I’m not sure about photog and film but will ask DD.

my son is a first year cinema major and was pleased that as a first semester freshman, he got to take a cinema production class. This would not be the case at many other lac that he looked at and certainly not on our premier state university campus. He is also glad that the cinema dept is in new improved quarters on campus with better editing equip. Next semester, he is signed up for a film critique class as well as another production class.
As to getting in, he had impressive ACTs but B+ grades and that netted him a substantial scholarship. He appears to be working relatively hard to maintain the better than B average required of scholarship recipients but also appears satisfied with his choice overall
