does anyone know anything about the fine/studio arts program at oberlin? i'd probably be majoring in painting, and haven't had a chance to visit and actually see the facilities or talk to any professors in that area.

D, who has very similar interests, visited Oberlin last spring. The art museum and art library were impressive. Students had opportunities to work with nationally recognized artists to install work in the museum. Studio facilities and the quality of undergrad painting seemed to be quite good, but not as strong as we've seen elsewhere. Didn't have chance to speak with art professors. The Obie student body generally seemed very "artsy", probably because the music conservatory has such a large influence on the campus. Obie students were by far the most friendly and social of any campus we visited. Recommend that you visit on a Friday so you can go to the school-wide TGIF and events in the co-ops that will give you a feel for the social atmosphere.

Does anyone else know how competitive the art program is? Any studio art majors out there?
