<p>Hi, I will be attending tisch in the fall and I auditioned for MT but was placed in an acting studio and I was just wondering if students ever transfer from other studios into the MT studio ( previously cap, now NSB) before the 2 years of primary studio. I am very openminded and intend to work hard but I am a very musical person and the idea of not having a musical element to what I was hoping to be an MT education is frightening. So basically do transfers into MT happen and how difficult are they.</p>
<p>I can say that in the past, students did transfer into CAP21 studio after two years. It is atypical to be able to do so in the first two years. I don’t know your studio but many studios have some vocal and dance work. You also can take private voice and also in your second year audition for musicals. Be aware that one studio that is an option after two years is Playwrights Horizons which has a MT Practicum option.</p>
<p>My daughter just finished her 3rd year in the Stella Adler Studio and she loves it. It is one of the studios that you can’t transfer into, because it is a 4-year program.
She was also very nervous about not having dance and music in her curriculum, but it has worked out very well. She has a lot of movement classes, and has gotten a lot out of them. She didn’t have voice her freshman year, it is by lottery. Her second year she got a teacher that she didn’t like much, but this year she was put with a teacher who she loves and has learned so much from.
They always say you can audition for the musicals at Tisch, but it seems being in Adler there really isn’t time to audition for anything outside. They put on productions 2nd year, with everyone cast, and two productions this year - classical and more contemporary, and again, everyone was cast in one of each of the shows.
She went in thinking she might transfer to CAP after two years, but has gotten so much out of Adler that she definitely wanted to stay the full 4 years.</p>
<p>You go through primary training (2 years) in one studio, and then can either continue in the same studio for advanced training or switch to a different one. It’s all explained on the website. You cannot, however, transfer before the end of 2 years.</p>
