My daughter just got the mail today as they told her on the phone. She has been placed in CAP21!!! (We live near Philadelphia, so it’s close my mail)

D is in NYC for spring break and was able to get her studio assignment from Tisch admissions office. They also connected her with a student ambassador who spent several hours with her--took her to see a couple of Playwright's classes in session, answered lots of questions and basically got her thoroughly excited about what the next four years will look like! Her decision is official--it's off to the Big Apple!

Congrats to your daughters!
mbear, my s. is finishing his 2nd year in Playwright's. It's been the perfect studio for him. At one point -- at the beginning -- he imagined auditioning to transfer to CAP after 2 years. Not so any more. For his third year he'll be doing an individualized program in Playwright's. He's very happy with the opportunities.

hey! just got mine. i'm in meisner! sooo happy. now, i know its really small, how many frosh do they accept again? is it true i heard four?.....

i wont get your replys bc i'm leaving for NY ...well for the airport for NY in 20 min! I guess i can just ask there, hehe. pardon my fast typing, my mom's telling me to get off! byee :-)

apparently, my mom (mbear88) has taken the shock value out of this... but its playwrights for me!!! i'm sooo excited. i, too, imagined cap at first. but the more i think about it, the more i see that this is the perfect fit for me. i fit so much better here, what attracted to me at cap was that i am interested in musical theatre, and was afraid i wouldnt get that kind of training any where else. but now i realize that a studio that specialized would almost be suffocating for me, i guess im more of a broad theatre person than a total mt person... im so excited to be able to do and experience everything that playwrights has to offer!!! if anyone else reads this and got placed here... pm me- id love to get to know the people ill be there with! :)

CAP21 for my son... he's thrilled!!

Congrats everyone! :)

Anyone know how I can find out my studio? I'm an international student so will they post it? And do you reckon I could phone to find out quicker?

I am confused. Can someone explain to me what Playwrights' Horizons is? Is it a performance-based studio at NYU/Tisch, or is it a playwrighting studio, in which people write? I don't understand how students who audition to perform in musical theater end up assigned to PH.

I do get that kids who audition for CAP21 (as their first choice) often find themselves assigned to Adler or Meisner. But Playwrights?

NMR, The quick answer... Playwrights is a performance-based studio (despite it's name). Acting/Directing/Design are the three major foci.

MEISNERRRRRRRR!!! :D:D

It was my first choice :)

Can anyone tell me specific info about it? Particularly what they teach (do they do voice work? movement? alexander technique? etc) and what the staff are like (know their stuff? approachable? enthusiastic? offer extra help? etc)

Thanks if anyone can :)

hey jenny i'm meisner, too!! congrats, we're apparently in the smallest studio...info about what we do is on the website under primary studios....and i visited and heard the teachers are great, especially our primary acting teacher!

I'm in Atlantic (which was my first choice), and I'm still debating whether or not to go to NYU.

So I have a question about Atlantic, if anyone can answer it.

I really liked the description of the studio, and it was my first choice, but now that I've been accepted I've heard some pretty negative things about it. Someone I talked to called it "stifling." I was wondering if there were any Atlantic students who could tell me what it's actually like.

Please help, must make decision soon.

Thanks.

Dear Jasmom, I am having such fun reading your posts! My S graduated from Playwrights last year. He also had leads in 2 gap shows, Seussical, and Edwin Drood and was the lead in History of Tears last year. The world has been an exciting place to be for my S. An off broadway show,a play produced at NYU and now the fringe festival. I hope your son the best of luck and I hope he enjoys his time at NYU. I will keep following your posts!

It's great to see you popping back in here after all this time! Your son sounds like he is successfully on his way. Bravo! Quite exciting opportunities he has had so far!

There are very few parents/students on the forums post college graduation and it sure is great to hear from those who have gotten to that point in their theater pursuits....as we discuss so much leading up to college admissions, then many have stayed on during the college years but we love to hear what happens next with all these talented young people. So, pop in from time to time to fill us in! I hope other parents from other schools will do the same down the line!

Best of luck to your son,
Susan

Camge,
So glad to hear from you. I've loved hearing about your s as well. He's such an inspiration regarding making the most of the opportunities provided. If you (and your son) don't mind, send me a PM re: who he is (my s was asking). Thanks for the encouragement!

jasmom-
I have been realllllly overdue with posting... but a huge congratulations on Hair and summer employment! I am scheduled to be in NYC during the run of Hair and plan on seeing it!

camge -
so great to hear an update on your son. I thing your son played the General in Seussical?? My daughter directed that show. He really was outstanding and I remember Lynn Ahrens commenting about him.

Hope everyone is looking forward to a great summer :)

Studio

Studio, Thanks. And is your daughter graduating this year???

Yes, my older daughter is graduating this year. She is spending her final semester in South Africa. She is taking the "Spoken Word" studio where she is writing her own piece and then will be performing in the theater in Johanessberg. She is also taking some academics and assisting a Choreographer in a dance installation.
That really is the gem of NYU Tisch... there are so many great studios plus new ones offered each year exploring different methods, etc..

Will you get to see your son perform this summer?

Still trying to work that out. Glad you filled us in on your daughter's fascinating exploits.

Hi, I'm just wondered how many students are accepted into Tisch's drama program each each? I know that CAP21 accepts about 80 to make a studio of sixty something, but what about the other studios? Thanks!
