I want to transfer to a top 25 national university as a junior. I am a freshman right now. My prospects of getting there are looking fairly good so far. I really would like to spend a semester abroad, maybe somewhere in Europe, my problem would be the following: I am unsure if studying abroad before transferring would hurt my chances at top schools, but at the same time I don't know if I would be able to do so once I transfer. Does anyone have any knowledge about this? I would appreciate your input.

Why would it hurt your chances?

It won’t hamper your chances at all. These are two different things.

He’s referring to the fact that different Universities may or may not accept these credits. If he’s taking classes that are requirements to transfer, and they do not accept them, then it could hurt his chances.
