Study Abroad | France or China?

Hey guys, I'm pretty set on studying abroad this fall. I've gotten into both France and Chinese programs, but I'm torn between the two. It's always been my dream to travel/study in France (Paris) since high school, but lately I've been leaning towards China (Shanghai). I just find China to be really fascinating in every aspect and feel that its more relevant, especially today, with the burgeoning economy, globalization and its impact on the rest of the world.

I want to hear what you guys think about these two options. :-)

I would go to France. You are so close to the rest of Europe. 4 hours away from London, 3 hours away from Brussels, Luxembourg, Geneva, Germany, Italy… That’s nothing… I drive 6-7 hours to get to SF constantly. Make a pro and con chart. I would scrutinize everything for a week straight.

Depends on whether you like snail cheese wine crepe croissant baguette beret or sushi

@ghiblijiang - Sushi is Japanese. Just saying…

France is an awesome place to vacation, but it’s geo-politically irrelevant. Western Europe, in general, is easy to visit on your own anytime.

Shanghai is facinating to visit, but air pollution and food purity are an issue. China would be less straightforward to visit in depth without guidance. China matters in the world.

I would examine what your learning, cultural & career objectives are, then choose accordingly

Also, an additional thought: Does anyone else find this an odd location for this topic?

Thanks GMTplus7 and mermaker for your advice! It’s just interesting to hear different perspectives. :-)

Decision can also be what is your goal for study abroad. If it is related to your future career, then Shanghai might not be bad since the job market definitely in in Asia.

I live & work abroad now, and have done so for quite some time in both europe & asia. From 1st hand experience, i can attest that visiting europe is easy to do anytime. If i had a guided opportunity to see china in depth, i would jump on it.
