How feasible would studying abroad for a semester be with a ME major? Are courses so prescripted that you really can't? Are there established programs at any English-speaking uni's overseas where credits might transfer well?

Yes, studying abroad is possible in engineering. It takes a lot of planning though, so start early. Most programs are in Europe/other english-speaking countries. ME is such a broad engineering major that I'm sure it wouldn't be hard as say ChemE, BioE, or such. Also, check out the Semester at Sea program http://www.semesteratsea.com/ . It's run through UVA, but offers a summer program that is specialized for engineering majors. It wouldn't be a semester, but you still would earn 12 hours of credit, and you'll see more than one place. If you want to do an academic semester, your school will have a study abroad office or help program, so check into that instead and talk to your advisor.

how much does it cost?
