is it possible, typically, to study abroad as an engineering major??? They seem to have a pretty established and strict curiculum, so is it really possible??

study abroad during the summer or take summer school and then study abroad for a term...........all things are possible to those who can plan.

depends on your college. I know a guy who majored in engineering and spent a semester in italy, but his college was stanford. Even at most colleges, if you come in with a lot of AP credit for the lower-division stuff (calculus, physics, chem, etc) then you will probably have room sophmore year to go abroad.

You can probably do it but will have to a. go to an English speaking country and b. start researching it really early on. Most departments have a professor in charge of study abroad to let you know which countries are viable and/or give you contacts at each based on who they know. Most departments will also insist upon approving all courses you take, but this is standard regardless of what you major in.
Realize that there are some really awesome engineering schools out there that are definetely up to par regardless of where you go, and sometimes they even have unique courses that you wouldn't be exposed to otherwise! Best of luck.

Maybe you could directly enroll in a foreign university for a semester. I know that's an option for humanities majors, and it may be the same for engineers. This way you could still be taking a full load of engineering courses and study abroad.
