Study finds nursing shortage may be easing | e! Science News

Part of the reason is that older nurses are temporarily delaying their retirement because they need to support unemployed family members or provide them with health insurance.

A big big question is what happens with Federal health insurance reform. If it is put into effect as was approved last year, there will be an initial growth spurt for the health care industry, because so many people have delayed seeking needed health care for years because they could not afford it.

There also are huge question marks about what will happen to federal reimbursement rates for medicare, and whether states will try to slash funding for medical assistance, which is consuming ever increasing percentages of state spending. That increase in state medical assistance expenses is a primary reason why states have slashed higher education funding.
