I'll be taking bio and chem. A family member of mine who has a masters in medicine recommended that I study for the Mcat by reading a prep book (e.g. examkrackers) and answering it's questions, WHILE I take the prereq. Does that sound like good advice?

no, its completely useless. it won’t help you in the class either since the info is too basic for a class. Study for the mcat 3 months or so before your test date for a couple of hours a day. If you study while taking prereqs: you won’t retain the information and you’ll run out practice material when its time for the real thing

Will you be “saving” any of your prereqs to take the semester before the MCAT? I took physics 2 the semester before the MCAT and it was really helpful for preparing–studying for MCAT and studying for class at the same time was great.

But I totally agree with ChemFreak–no reason to study more than 3 to 4 months before MCAT.

D. took Kaplan for MCAT in Nov. - April of Junior year and took MCAT in May. She liked prep. to be spread longer than most others would prefer. She was taking physics and had only about 15 hours in each fall and spring semesters to have few hours alsmost every day to prep. for MCAT. Her Kaplan classes were on Sunday. It helped having physics while preping for MCAT - it kept physics fresh (it is not her favorite). She also did not need to prep. for Gen. Chem at all, she knows Gen Chem. very well - Supplemental Instructor for Gen. Chem prof. She got decent score. I hope it helps.

I’m going to take the Mcat sometime during my junior year. Or maybe the summer after sophomore year. I’m not sure.
