Coffee doesn't work for me and its' so irritating cuz I really need something strong or I'm out within and hour, drooling on my book ..
My friend told me to try espressos, but I don't even know how to make one of those .. it sounds kinda scary though I just spent an entire month's worth of paychecks on a new espresso machine. I will never sleep again.

maybe i oughta try the drugs
do you guys think this would help with runnning? Maybe not the pills, but if one were to drink lotsa hard core coffee like triple shots and became suuuper hyper, maybe they'd have all this energy and just burst in the race?

No thanks for me. I mean, this is only a temporary solution, and I don't like the idea of taking drugs that aren't prescribed to me. It's a dangerous business if you ask me :p

Aderal needs to be monitored closely for side effects and dosage as it can keep you up all night or drop you when it wears off if not prescribed correctly. It can actually hurt you on a test if timing is not right so I would not encourage messing with someone else's medication. Samurai I had to laugh at your coffee hopes. My S is addicted to coffee and his coach used to buy it for him before a race. He was one of their best runners but on one trip ran a race without his coffee and did horribly. After that the coaches franticly made sure he was supplied. If you are not already hooked though coffee should not matter either way. Runners world says it can help a race but my kids told me Runners World is not for real runners but for us over 40 folks who think we are runners!

I actually take adderrall when i have big things i need to study for or a big test or something. Its never had any negative effects on me and if you ask around your school im sure that someone can get you some for like a few bucks a pill

Haha arizonamom. Your son is funny .. I'm not addicted to coffee yet but I might try it next time I run. The best runner at our school said carb loading doesn't really work, and I sorta agree. But I guess it depends on the length of the race. Lots of carbs might work for long distance races, but maybe coffee won't cuz it will wear off? What distances does your son run?

haha...so you're actually going to try this? now, you're the one being funny. I have never in my life drunk a whole cup of coffee. I don't like its taste...so...
anyway, good luck with your races, although I doubt coffee will have any kind of effect on the way you run.

lol yeah, i'm up for trying anything. so you really think it won't work? some people say energy drinks like Red Bull or Monster give them a real energy boost to work out when they exercise. actually I just ran across an article today comparing them, I might try one of the drinks here. It's pretty much the same concept, only this stuff contains vitamins along with caffeine instead of just the caffeine.

mexican't haha your mary j comment reminded me of that sean paul song Everyday we be burnin not concernin what nobody wanna say
We be earnin dollars turning cau we mind deh pon we pay
some got gold and oil and diamonds, all we got is mary j
legalize it, time to recognize it

The Pentagon feeds this stuff to the troops so it must be safe. The Air Force flies drugged and the army conducts patrols drugged so it must be safe.

Ok so if the government is doing all that, it must be ok for us..right?
My finals are in 5-6 weeks and I'm really really screwed for this. I don't really give a crap about the consequences actually because I just want to get my exams over and done with, with good grades because I have a history of really bad grades and this is the last chance I'd be able to give off a good impression.

I don't know anyone with ADD or with ADHD. wow I sound really desperate. And I think I am.

Red06, yeah apparently, it gives you the hard concentration and the motivation to do whatever you want. That girl on 20/20 was like, "I'm all hyped up. I'm ready to type up the whole thesis. I have the urge to do everything right now. I really want to do this!" (well along those lines.. i cant remember the exact words)
So it even gives you the motivation as well as keeping you awake and giving you 110% concentration..
man i really want those pills.

wow... i just realized you live in new zealand (the greatest place on earth) you really do need motivation to go to school... ummm i think you can order the pills online without a prescription but thats kind of a risk or like i said you can just ask around.... at any american school there is someone selling them but i dont know about new zealand

new zealand.. the greatest place on earth...? lol even though I live in the suburbs (no where rural) it's still so boring..
Ordering pills sounds a bit weird.. maybe i'll go to the pharmacy and have a look around first.
I wish I knew someone with ADD..

NoFX, there is no magic pill. If you want to do well on your finals, sit down and study. I have relatives on adderol(i butchered the spelling.) It is absolutely not something you want to voluntarily take. I also have to wonder, just because someone on a message board posted that the military uses it, are you really so naive as to believe something like that, completely unsubstantiated?

And to the runners, if you want to run faster, run more, and work harder. BTW I'm pretty sure coffee is a diuretic, so definitely don't try it(or anything new like Red Bull) for the first time before a big race. Read Once a Runner, it addresses this topic.
"What was the secret, they wanted to know; in a thousand different ways they wanted to know The Secret. And not one of them was prepared, truly prepared to beleive that it had not so much to do with chemicals and zippy mental tricks as with the most unprofound and sometimes heart-rending process of removing, molecule by molecule, the very tough rubber that comprised the bottoms of his training shoes. The Trial of Miles; Miles of Trials. How could they ever be expected to understand that?"

I wouldn't recommend taking Adderall, especially because you may get dependent on it. I watched a MTV special on it and all of the kids featured on the show got hooked on it, took more than they were supposed to, and would have withdrawral symptoms without it.

I know you just want to take it for your finals or whatever, but it is a prescription drug for a reason--it is addictive and is not meant to be taken by those who don't have ADD or ADHD. It sounds like a "wonder pill", but there are real consequences.

terry hahahahaha! yeah killer beaches.. i nearly drowned in one.. i live next to like 2 beaches and i see them everyday so i guess it aint that exciting lol.

yeah sometimes it feels like studying hard isn't enough. I know I am not putting in 100% effort right now (if i am putting in 100, i would be studying my ass off right now).. maybe about 80%

I wish some crazy scientist would make The Wonder pill..

I took adderall the first semester of my freshman year during finals week. I thought it worked really well. It made me concentrate a lot better. I really don't see what the big deal is.

i'd try the stuff out just to see how well it works, but i'd never actually be dependent on it. depending on pills to get good grades is just lame. It'd be just like Barry Bonds and steroids.
