Study Pills

I watched 20/20 couple of nights ago and there was this part about college students taking 'study pills'. They are like aderoll (sp?) and ADD pills. Apparently, if you take ADD pills, and if you are not affected with ADD, you get major concentration and focus on whatever you are doing. And on 20/20, they were following this girl who takes the pills and she was all hyped up, ready to type her project up and you could tell from her eyes, that she was 100% focused. She gets almost perfect grades everytime..

This doctor was going on about addiction. He said that in the end, students are gonna rely on the pills for everything.

And I was thinking, MAN I WANT THOSE PILLS because I got my finals coming up in November. And I asked my mum if she could get those pills for me and she said that you have to be prescribed them.

On 20/20, the girl said that it's really easy to get prescribed medicine easily, just by completing simple yes/no questions. Ands she said that people just share them out in college, that it's no secret that they are popping pills.

It was also on Desperate Housewives lol

Do you guys know of anyone who takes these pills for great concentration? Would you take them if you were offered some?

I mean, if you had all A's and that gave you a guaranteed acceptance to Princeton (obviously false though), I would definetly take those pills and study my ass off, and get my perfect scores.
And in college, I'm gonna be an intel student and getting into med school will definetly be really really really hard for me. I think I would take those pills to bring my GPA to the highest possible.
I don't think I really care about the consequences.. I kinda think it as 'taking chances in life and living life to the fullest'.....? lol

If you were offered them now, would you happily take them? Or would you be hesitant.. and why?
I know this all seems kinda strange and i guess, in a way, it could be called 'cheating'...

What do you guys think?

I'd take them.

Seriously. I would.

Mee!!!

I have MAJOR concentration issues... not compared to people that have ADD of course. I mean, I can't even concentrate on a game!!

I know people who take them... people who don't have prescriptions for it. They're fairly easy to get from what I've heard.

What about the side effects?

I found an article on this...
http://www.ergogenics.org/brainsteroids.html

The side effects are as bad as I thought but oh well.

Yeah...I would never take that sort of stuff. It's just not a good idea. It might help a few times, but it's like Russian roulette (sp?) - you never know which time you'll end up in the hospital or addicted or whatever. I'm also a hardcore anti-drug/alcohol person, so that's a huge reason I'm against it.

wow such things exist? that's cooL, although i'd probably stay away from it. i rather trust my own abilities. sorry.

well....I would be kinda hesitant about them, because I think it's only a short beautifull dream that all of a sudden turns into the worst nightmare. think about it: so, you take those pills, you get into a top college, you have the highest GPA fo all your classmates, but then you get to spend your senior year into rehab, what's the point???

My dad's a psychiatrist and I think we have several boxes of samples of this sitting in the basement. I could take them if I wanted to, but it really just seems stupid to me. I'd rather trust my own abilities and not take things I don't have to.

Did you know you can sell them $5 a pill?....:)

Haha, you guys are using pills as an excuse for bad grades? That's so lame. Just get down and study.

I'm scared of pills.

Coffee works pretty good to late a night, a is nowhere near as bad for you!

I have a dose of maryj every morning. I doo 100% percent perfek

yeah i'm not into coffee just because of the taste, but I'd rather not drink it anyways because then you become dependent upon it to wake up/ concentrate. The pills do sound tempting, but obviously, one would work up a dependency on them. Plus, it would just feel not as good. Its like reading sparknotes. It works, but then you didn't really do anything. But I could see why other people might want them.

But unlike Sparknotes, they can adversely affect your body.

Yeah I wouldn't take them if I didn't have to. I don't like the idea of drugs that affect brain functions and having no idea of any long-term effects. But I have to have them. It is people that don't have ADHD or ADD and take the pills that give people that really do a bad name.

Fo' shizzle, I cuzzizle

not so much ritalin, but adderall has tons of negative side effects. I knew a kid who had severe ADHD, and he was on adderall, and he would live for vacations when he wouldnt have to be on adderall. For those of you that don't know, adderall is like speed's baby cousin, they are derived from the same compounds. Anyway, he was telling me about how he would have sleepless nights, vomiting, he didnt act like the same person on adderall, he would be stressed out, and deserving of a break, but at the same time he would just keep working. Even if he had done all his work, he would feel the need to keep doing stuff, he could never relax. He said that when he was on it, it was like he had no control over himself. Maybe ritalin, since it's a lot less intense (still probly not though) but I would never take adderall.

Adderall works well for finals. Its a staple when it comes to crunch time in many colleges.
