Study Plan for November/December SAT

As of now, my super score is 2110:

700 CR
680 M
730 W

First, I am very satisfied with it, especially my writing and cr scores, however i want advice on increasing both CR and M (could care less about writing at this point)

For CR, I hear that the best way to improve is simply to read more. What should I read more of? I hate novels...I was thinking about just reading short passages a little every few days so I get exposed to more vocabulary, etc.

For Math, I feel that I know how to answer just about every Math question the SAT throws at me (very occasionally I won't) but stupid mistakes ALWAYS get the best of me...Any tips on Math other than the usual "read the question over and over"?

My goals are basically: CR= 720+, M=700+ (Superscore of 2150)

As an SAT math tutor I will just comment on the math sections.

Sounds to me like there’s only one small missing component for you. I’m willing to bet that on many SAT questions, including the harder ones you’re doing the problems the same way you would do them in school.

So you need to do 2 things - one that can be taken care of immediately, and one that you will need a bit of effort for.

(1) make sure you know as many basic SAT specific math strategies as possible.
(2) make sure that every time you do hard practice problems you use these basic strategies instead of doing the problems the way you would in school.

Number (2) is where the work comes in. You need to be very active about this. You will see a problem, and think “I can do this using algebra.” You will do the algebra, get tricked and get the question wrong. After looking it over you will see your mistake, and think “oh - that’s right, it was just a careless error. I can get this one right.” This is your mind tricking you into thinking that you’re doing things the right way. Don’t fall into this trap.

Best of luck!

Thank you DrSteve, but i have a question: Where would I find basic SAT math strategies?

Skorpius, I am not allowed to answer that question on this website because I am an author (they have very strict policies against marketing). But it’s certainly easy to find several such strategy books by doing a search on Amazon (hopefully I’m allowed to say that much). You can probably also find some free information through Google searches, but this might require a bit of effort.

thank u!!!

I suggest dr john chung’s sat math. It helped me raise my score from 670 to 800
