After RELENTLESS comments of friends and family about spending such a large amount of money just for an education that you can get in India for less than 15 lacs, I am confused whether what i am doing will actually be for the better? To get to the point, the main motive for studying is to get a handsome job. So will I be able to make up for this humongous expenditure which i am asking my parents to pay and get a good job( If not in India then any other nation), If say I graduate from a college like UCLA, Ga tech, Rice or even Purdue?

If you wanna get a jon in India, you’ll have to make it to t10 at least, UCLA and it’s like just won’t cut it, people don’t know such universities. As far as US is concerned, you’ll have a hard time getting a work visa due to stringent requirements and tough competition.
So, if you just want a good education, go to US or if you want to make a career in academe.

*job

I though visa restrictions would be minimal if I graduate from these univ.'s. And suppose I get a job in US, then would the job be worth it?

Most of the times, VISA restrictions aren’t minimal for people who graduated from brand name colleges, it depends on the field you’re competing the jobs for. There’s a cap on the maximum number visas that can be issued each year, after which you’ll have to try again next year. Therefore the best thing to do is to start your grad education and keep looking for jobs.
Finally, these jobs in US are not worth it because most of the times the working hours are terrible. Sure you’d earn more but that’s not worth it. But if you’re extremely talented, that’s another story altogether.
Overall, go only for the education, don’t hope to get a job there (not only it’s difficult but it sucks). Come back to your country and become an entrepreneur and do something worthwhile.

Peepingtom, do you live in the US? I have never witnessed any of the behavior you’re describing. I have to think that we’d be better off without men who seem to think all Americans are alike.

OP, education isn’t worth taking on huge debt, especially when you’re unsure of your job propects after graduation. Has your family suggested alternatives close to home? Can they afford those?

@austinmshauri
You’re right that I don’t live in the states, but I do have friends and relatives, so it’s not entirely untrue. I never said all Americans are alike, I said it’d depend on the type of job, I guess you misread my post.

@austinmshauri I am just saying that If say I get a good job then would it be worth the money? And yes there are alternatives but they all require me to drop a year.

I was going to just say this guy was a ■■■■■, but then he clarified that he doesn’t live here, he just gets his information from movies.

I can’t speak to the marketability in India of a US degree, and it is true you have to jump through some hoops to get the work visa after graduation. However, this other nonsense is… absolute nonsense.

@ peepintom

sure college is not just about education but also the social experience of college which is where unfortunately we are lacking ( I mean unless you go to IIT )

so as with every thing in life you can never know looking forward so go ahead take the plunge you probably have nothing to loose.

you really believe that they would let you start a business there (without a green card or citizenship), Contacts? are you kidding me? When the Americans don’t want to mingle with you, how are you supposed to make contacts?

“Peeping Tom” your “info” has absolutely no creditability… I could make a lot of generalities about Indians that I have observed but I don’t since I haven’t had exposure to a large amount.

Please dude @peepingtom
I really did not want to make personal attacks but uninformed people like you really tend to ruin the image of India.
