Studying abroad in the summer?

So I am thinking of studying abroad next summer (2009) and I just had some general questions about summer study abroad, which seems like its different than during the semester, so if someone who has studied during the summer could help me out, that would be great.

-How long does a program typically last?
- How many classes do you typically take?

Or anything else that may be interesting to know

i would love to hear people's opinions on summer study abroad as well, because i'm also considering it for next summer.

my s is study abroad in Europe this summer. The program was sponsored by his college. He will be with a group of 25 students and will live in guesthouse dorms at the local U. The trip includes a 2 week study tour of many European cities and institutions and a month of classes at the U with European professors.
The program is 6 weeks long. He's taking 2 classes (6 credits).
Going abroad, especially to Europe, is expensive these days!

My girlfriend just left for Argentina yesterday for a 6 week program, and she's staying for 2 extra weeks to travel. There are 10 people on her program, and they each take 2 classes (6 credits).

One problem with summer study abroad is that it's often very expensive. I'm only playing about $3000 more than my girlfriend paid for my semester long study abroad to Spain in September.

I'm going on a study abroad to Paris this summer (leaving in 2.5 weeks!) The program is 4 weeks long. I will be staying in a dorm with the other participants (well the girls, anyway, it's a single sex dorm with nuns... eek). I will be taking two classes/6 credits. There are 25 of us going in all, I think.
Some programs can last an entire summer (10 weeks), some are only half the summer (5-6 weeks), some are a month in the summer (mine- 4 weeks).
Mine is also about 5000 dollars (not sure how much longer programs would last). I'm glad it's not the whole semester, because I'd hate to miss stuff going on during the year, esp. in the fall (football season!!), and the summer in my college town is sloooooow and boring anyway. Might as well spend it in an amazing city 5000 miles away!

I know several people doing study abroad this summer from my school (Delaware). The programs are about 4-5 weeks and they take somewhere around 6-7 credits. A good thing is that you're with UD faculty and before you sign up you know how the credits would count to your major. I know one friend that is doing the Europe trip and it is VERY expensive. The dollar totally s*cks against the euro this year. You don't have to be a UD student to do the study abroad programs.

I used to go Bristol, UK during Summer 5 years ago. It's rather OK except the people there
