I am planning to study abroad for a semester or two, but I have a lot of questions:

Is it financially greater than the tuition I would pay for a year at a university? (~$30,000 for me)

Does it affect your admission to graduate/med/law schools?

Are you still following your planned course for your major that you would have at a university? (ej. classes, gpa, etc)

What are some pros and cons?

If you have studied abroad, can you please leave your input? What did you like or dislike? Do you suggest doing it?

Thank you

Depends on the program. Some are, some aren’t. Check with your school.

Again, depends on the program. Some allow you to choose your own classes, and thus you can keep taking major courses. Others make you take certain classes, and often these aren’t specifically for your major but more spread out.

Can’t help with the other ones. I want to study abroad also. Look into the specific program(s) you’re thinking about first, as they vary. Generally the school-sponsored ones have scholarships and classes transfer while outside ones don’t, but it really does vary.

Thank you. I will ask my college during the orientation.

I would still like more input, especially for #2.

Unless you go to a great school and do some intense academic work abroad, pretty much everyone is going to assume you spent a semester on a really long, expensive vacation.
