I am beginning my college search for my second child and she’s interested in studying business. I can see that Muhlenberg offers some business majors but I’m wondering how their program compares to mid sized schools or large publics that have business schools. Anyone gone thru this already that can share some pros and cons? Thanks!
My daughter is a senior and a business major with concentrations in marketing and management. The program is quite strong however the pre med and theatre programs are what the school is known for. She was able to find an excellent summer internship thru the school after her junior year and has been on a number of interviews so far but has yet to secure a job after graduation. Many of her friends are accounting majors and most have already found work with various firms. The accounting program is very rigorous and top notch. For the most part she enjoyed all of her classes and her professors. The career center has been renovated and does a nice job helping the students find work.
I can’t really comment on how the program compares to those at larger institutions. My other daughter goes to a small school as well! Clearly the economics curriculum won’t have the number of courses and options of a larger school but my daughter has been happy so far and has enjoyed her time at Muhlenberg.
Hope this helps and good luck to your daughter.
Thanks so much! That is really helpful. Does your daughter like the vibe as a non theater student? I’m wondering how prevalent it feels. Sometimes it’s hard to be in the “other” programs. My daughter loves community service, business, etc but has no musical or theatrical talents.
Yes she does although there is a bit of a divide between the theater students and the rest of the school. The other somewhat dominate group are the athlete’s. My daughter is not an athlete but does enjoy going to the football and basketball games. Greek life is not very prevalent either. My daughter chose not to rush and did not miss it at all. One of her roommates is in a sorority but is not really active. Her other 2 roommates did participate either.
Overall its a very inclusive vibe and everyone seems to get along very well.
My daughter is non-Greek athlete who started playing in a student orchestra as a soph, so she’s doing a bit of reaching across to the music/theater folks. She’s been happy with the social scene so far and would probably agree with @Formula1fan assessment.
