I have a very nice gift card to a very nice store. In that store, there is a particular pair of shoes I want to purchase, and they are not inexpensive. My dilemma is, do I use the gift card and the shoes will cost me nothing, or do I purchase the shoes elsewhere, where they are
‘on sale’ for half the price and spend out of pocket $ to save $?
I dislike overspending, and always feel cheated if I do, however, in this case it is not spending (gift card) v ‘unnecessary’ spending. WWYD?
Depends if you like other stuff in the store and visit it regularly. If you do, then wait until there’s something you like that’s not available elsewhere and use the gift card on that. If it’s a store you never shop at normally, then get the shoes.
LOL, I’m trying to decide if it’s worth a half hour round trip to use my $5 Kohl’s cash when I don’t really need anything. And only have a 20% offer to use.
I’m looking at my dirty windows, and they drive me batty. I want to get a window cleaner here pronto, but we are replacing our roof soon… so I’m afraid the windows will get dirty after that. The roofer may or may not stick to the promised schedule so we might spend the rest of the summer with dirty windows. To wash or not to wash now… that is the question!
Any chance your windows are reachable with an extended squeegee that you can get for $20 or less? That, a bucket of water and window washer liquid, and a hose might be something to consider to save $$ and the hassle of a window washing company.
It will take me a whole weekend to do all windows. We live in a house of glass Seriously, we have windows for walls on the ground level, and windows on the north side will require a fully extended ladder. I decided that at my “hourly rate” and my age, it is not worth doing all of this by myself.
The roof might happen next week or might happen in September. That is the cause of the dilemma. If it happens next week, O would be mad that I wasted $$ on windows that were clean less than a week.
Are there other things at the gift card store that you would buy where getting them elsewhere would not reduce the price as much?
Or do you know anyone else who regularly shops at the store whom you can sell the gift card to (at a discount for them but more than half of the face value)?
Dilemma resolved! I went to the store with gift card in hand, and asked for a price match - which was granted! I got the shoes for half price and paid nothing! Win, Win for me!
Yay!
My current dilemma involves tonight’s dinner. If I use up all the vegetables that need to be used, I’ll be dandy, but everyone else will not enjoy dinner. I could cook something different, but then the veg will probably be past its best/unusable tomorrow. And I told son his girlfriend could come for dinner, so now I feel more obliged to make something tasty.
Do I use all the veg, or make something different and risk that the veg tomorrow will be too gross to use? I already had to toss some mushrooms. I hate wasting! And I hate deciding what to cook.
Mine is a repeating, summer-long dilemma. Actually two dilemmas. Dilemma 1: should I cut into the cantaloupe now or wait a few days? I can’t tell when a cantaloupe is ripe so about 50% of the time I cut it too early or too late. Dilemma 2: if it’s not ripe enough or too ripe do I eat it anyway or toss it in the compost and try again? Some years I just give up and stop buying cantaloupe.
My dilemma is how best to provide for our D, if she’s still disabled when I (& H) die, which will hopefully be a long while from now. I guess it’s not a stupid one exactly but one that feels like it has too many variables and such a long potential timeline.
I also want to be fair to our S also, though he’s gainfully employed and has a good skill set and a full time career and part time job.
I’ve called my estate attorney with a bunch of questions. He said he’d ask around, do some research and get back to me. Maybe I need to reach out to him again.
