After all your advice, I am definitely waiting and not getting new glasses now. I’m thinking of getting the surgery in the winter and will review the old threads. Maybe I don’t see as well as I think I do!
Much of my day is close up viewing with reading or my tablet. I’ve been near sighted most of my life and am used to being able to see close up. I like not needing glasses to read in bed. I don’t do sports or other activities where glasses could be an impediment. Otoh, I do like the idea of a sunglasses wardrobe instead of one prescription pair!
At least the cataract info at yesterday’s appointment took my mind off Monday’s tooth extraction for a little while! Opposing tooth is already gone so no implants needed fortunately.
There is absolutely NO pain at all associated with cataract surgery. The worse part is the awkward two weeks between surgeries when you have one lousy eye and one perfect eye. I covered the unoperated eye’s eyglass lens with paper and was fine watching TV, etc. Of course, could not drive!
And yes, we went from one pair of prescription sunglasses to having a pair in each car, a pair by the sundeck, etc.
My understanding is that the surgery itself is painless, but there is a likelihood of headaches when you’re home afterwards. This happened to a friend of mine who had her surgery last year.
Neither my wife or I experienced headaches, but I imagine they are possible during the period between left and right eyes, when each eye wants to focus differently on objects.
I also had no problem with headaches, or anything else. My biggest problem was a reaction to the tape used to tape my patch on. After my first eye, the surgery center used a ton of tape which cause a slight rash once removed the next morning. I rotated where I taped the patch on each night to avoid the area. On my second eye I asked that they use less tape and had no issue with that eye. My ophthalmologist likes to use a clear flat patch for the first week which I didn’t mind using as I sleep on my stomach and side. I didn’t want to end up rubbing my eye against the pillow. I know some docs don’t require a patch at bedtime.
I had cataract surgery 14 years ago. Corrected for distance. I have astigmatism and need prisms,so I wasn’t expecting to go without glasses anyway.
Prescription has changed slightly over the years. I can watch TV and drive w/o glasses, but can’t read my phone, sew or do close work unless I have glasses. Computer screens are in the fuzzy but readable zone, so I have multifocal glasses.
Surgery was easy. Had a reaction to the antibiotics when we did the second eye, but that was easy to fix.
I just purchased it. They charge for shipping, but it’s still less $ than if I purchased it at Ulta (it’s available online only) and had free shipping.
