Stupid Question- where do you put your suitcase?

I expect most college students who live on campus would have HUGE suitcases when moving in. So after you've moved in, where do you keep those suitcases?

Under the bed?
Will there be space in the dorm room?

I just got back from orientation and it looked like there was enough room to fit a suitcase or two under the bed. While I'll be taking quite a few suitcases up, my parents will bring some back probably. When I'm moving out of the dorm, they'll bring the suitcases back.

i lived in hill my freshman year and the room was fairly small (yet the lovely hallmates make up for the small room). anw, there were drawers under my bed. however, there was enough space to put my luggages behind my drawers and put the drawer back in place. otherwise, if ur parents come with u and u dont have too much to store in ur luggage, just take out ur stuff and have them take ur luggage back home. they can take it back to u at the end of the year.

i can guarantee that no matter how much stuff u bring and how big ur luggage is at the beginning of the year, u won't be able to fit everything in at the end of the year unless u really plan to take the majority of ur stuff back home during spring break.

Either have your parents bring it back, or just use garbage bags or space bags. They're much easier.

^ It's kind of hard to travel across the country with your stuff in garbage bags.

I had my mom bring home the large suitcases and kept a mid-sized one for traveling home/visiting people on breaks. Unfortunately, it didn't fit under my bed, so it just sat against the wall all year.

When you're packing, definitely get those air-compressing bags for your clothes.

Lol, I meant if you were driving.

I'm moving down myself 4 days before the rest of the school, for a retreat. I'm bringing our two largest suitcases and stuffing them as full as I can. When my family comes down later that week (there are 4 of them), they're each bringing 2 medium sized suitcases with the rest of my stuff and a change of clothes for themselves. When they go home (they're all flying, it's only an hour flight but 7 hours driving), my parents will take my larger suitcases and put their medium sized ones inside. My empty suitcases can hold their smaller ones, therefore they still only have two bags each as allowed by the airline. I'll be left with a large duffel and my dance bag, which is large and can be used to hold clothes etc when I go home.

Vacuum bags are awesome and indispensable, especially if you're transporting bedding.

Personally, I shoved a bunch of random junk that I wouldn't be using much during the year into my suitcase and stuck it in my closet (it's one of the upright rolly ones). My friends who didn't have loft beds put their suitcases under their beds. It may seem like dorm rooms are small, but you'd be surprised at how many places there are for you to put stuff.

Soft sided duffle bags rather than stiff suitcases worked better for my kids--easier to store inside each other or stuff in odd corners.

i kept 2 rollalongs in my room last year -- one under the bed and one in the closet

Also if you have nesting suitcases you can put out of season clothes in the smaller one and then put that inside of the bigger one, and then put that under your bed. It's also a good place to hide. . . um. . . things (in the smaller suitcase, which is in the bigger one).

haahaha equine....i never would have thought of that.
i may bring a couple suitcases to college after all ;)

At my school, there are storage closets on the floor that students are allowed to keep suitcases in, with the RA having access. You might want to ask if there are closets like this at your school.

You can also store stuff in your suitcase, especialy is storage space is low. Use your suitcase to store heavy sweaters, extra shoes, etc and just keep it stored flat under your bed. If it has wheels, it will be very easy to access.
