I want to talk about how my cousins and I went to Chinatown and they were selling faux bags, and it just kind of led us on this adventure and I was going to link the essay to an illusion vs reality theme and how I had to gain street smarts. Do you think it is bad for me to talk about this topic? Just for the record, we never did buy anything so techincally we never committed an illegal act. It's just kind of edgy. I feel like I can put my personality a lot into it and it could turn out really great though. thoughts?

Write it, but be willing to jettison it if readers you respect say it doesn’t work. Buying knockoff stuff is not so problematic as most “illegal act” essay topics.

Ahh I don’t think it’s bad. Basically no cheating, no violence, no drugs and you are all set.

Since you didn’t actually buy anything, I don’t think it’s a big deal.

Seeing illegal activities happen is not illegal.
