So I just took SAT subject tests for Math II and Physics and I don’t think I did well plus it’s senior year in December. I’m applying to schools that have the ACT and no subject test caveat such as Columbia,UPenn, Yale, Princeton etc…The problem is that I’m applying as an engineering applicant. Im strongly thinking about not sending my scores and focusing more on my essays. Do you think that if I dont send subject tests because theyre not required although recommended could hurt my chances? Do any of you guys know anyone who got into the aforementioned schools w/o subject tests as an engineering applicant?
it would hurt your chances since a lot of applicants who are applying for the schools you mentioned have few sat subject test scores. Since I don’t know your other scores and what you mean by “not doing well”, I can’t tell much. But yes, I’ve seem people without subject tests getting into good engineering schools. However, if you really want to be competitive, just send your scores as long as they are above 700s. It’s much better than nothing
I truly appreciate your answer…My main problem is I honestly don’t think I even broke 700 =( (I studied but had no time to even do a single practice test). Anyway thankyou
I took the same tests. I’m also in the same situation. But I’m applying to Carnegie Mellon, Vanderbilt, UT Austin, Notre dame, Rice, Umich.
Rice and Carnegie require the subject tests but I also took math 1 as a backup since my proctor forgot to give us a 5 min warning on math2 and I ended up almost missing 2 questions. Honestly I feel like I didnt break 700 on any except maybe math 1.
Yes focus on your essays, you’ve done enough with academics now its time to show who you really are. The only thing I can do is also work on my essays.I dont think they exactly hurt your chances, just not improve them.
I am in the same situation as a result of the November subject tests and I know I was way under 700…but Cornel is forcing me to send every score so they will see them
@yd1000 Rice does not require subject tests if you submit ACT W Writing
