Subject test freak-out

I'm taking the Chem, Spanish, and Math II subject tests tomorrow (June testing date) and I'm beginning to realize how unprepared I really am. I began studying when school let out last week because I didn't have time to do it before then due to finals; here I am the night before, freaking out because I feel quite unprepared for all three. I know it's kind of sad that I'm asking this now, but how bad would it be if I take all three tests and get mid 600s (worse case scenario) tomorrow? I'm shooting for ivies and other highly selective schools, and I know that mediocre scores would be pretty unacceptable, so if it happened, what would I be able to do?

Does taking subject tests (the same ones) over again reflect poorly on your application? What if I get decent scores in two of them and bomb the third? I know that if you cancel scores, you have to cancel all scores for that test sitting, so it would be bad to do well on one of them and very poorly on the others. I'm just very confused and somewhat terrified...anyone have any suggestions?

I'm sorry. I realize that it's the night before and that I should probably forget about it and just relax, but I can't until I get some answers. Any input would be very, very much appreciated!

Nah, you can retake at least once and it shouldn’t detract from your application. After all, everyone has their one bad testing day, and taking 3 tests can only make it worse.

Don’t worry about it.

I’m in the same boat as you. Dreaming of ivies, but I’m screwed for tomorrow. I had my last finals yesterday and haven’t had any real time to study soley for the SAT IIs. Bio E and Spanish tomorrow. All I’ve had are an intro bio course and Span III Honors. Spanish might be ok, but im scared for Bio. I’m mainly a Math/Physics person, and i despise bio/chem.

Thanks, Aero. That makes me feel better. Do you happen to know if you can use score choice to select individual subject test scores and compile your highest scores together for multiple testing dates to send to schools? That’s another thing concerning me…

It’s okay, Pi Face, I know how you feel. Good luck tomorrow! I’m sure you’ll do better than you think. My friend has been studying for Bio, and she doesn’t seem to think it’s all that bad. Hopefully she’s right!

I feel the same way, potentiality. You can use Score Choice on individual tests. I called CB and they verified.

Thank you! That’s excellent news…

I know. I was RELIEVED. Thank goodness Harvard and Princeton accept Score Choice. :stuck_out_tongue: Good luck!

Same here. i feel the same way. But i say jsut go for it and do your best.

That’s all we can do now.

And this is coming from a person who is freaking out like crazy but trying hard to calm down.

So. . . I payed for three tests and I don’t feel ready AT ALL for the third. Should I just wing it, (since my top two ivies that require it accept Score Choice) or should I bail out and try it in the fall?

I say just go for it! That’s what I’m doing. You paid, you’re going to be there anyways…score choice exists to help you with situations like this! Even if you do very poorly, it will not have been a waste of an hour, at least. Plus, you can rest easy knowing that there are others doing the same thing. : )

What I’m most afraid of is doing poorly tomorrow, studying hard core all through the summer, and then neglecting the subject test studying when school starts up in the fall to focus on classes that have absolutely nothing to do with my subject tests. I’ll be taking AP Calc, AP Gov, AP Lit and Comp, and AP Economics, none of which will serve to help me review as I near the dreaded October testing date! Has anyone else been through this? Planning on going through this?

haha, potentiality! I’m planning on going through the same thing, too! We must have a lot in common in terms of testing situations. I’m REALLY worried that I’ll lose the info I gained over the summer. :/

for schools like stanford, that require you to submit ALL tests would it be a bad idea to take a test (bio) 3 or 4 times but get 750+ on it?

how does stanford enforce its test reporting policy, that has been a mystery to me…
good luck

@ amman

I don’t know how any of the schools rejecting Score Choice enforce their policies. From what I’ve heard, it’s based on the “honor code.” If the school has a way of verifying the fact that the honor code was broken, I don’t know. . .
