I earned a 690 on my US History SAT Subject test in May, which is better that I thought I did. This gives me more confidence on my AP US History test score. Should it?

I think that equates to a 4/5 on the AP exam, assuming my essay scores are decent. Is that a fair comparison?

Between the subject test and AP test how much extra studying did you do?

According to <a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools; a 690 is in the 72nd percentile. (top 28%)
According to [Advanced Placement United States History - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](AP United States History - Wikipedia) only the top 8.5% - top 11.0% received a 5 on the exam. In 2008 the top 30.9% received a 4 or 5. In 2009 the top 26.7% received a 4 or 5. In 2010 the top 30.3% received a 4 or 5.

In at the bottom of the 4 range so it’ll be close. Depends on how much extra you studied between the subject test and the ap exam. Also depends on your essays, who knows just wait until July.

It would be pretty fair to assume you got a 3 or 4.

Not exactly. You need to remember that the curve for the AP exam is very different from the curve on the SAT II (especially the USH SAT II). A 60% on an APUSH exam is a 5, but 60% of 800 is 480. The correlation between SAT II scores and AP scores is very hard to describe. I don’t think a direct correlation exists, because of the difference in the curves.

@314159265, I was using percentiles not percentages with regards to the score. There is no 100% direct correlation, but there are definitely general trends. A person who gets 750+ on the subject test will probably get a 4 or 5 if he’s a decent writer.

I’m only stating this for U.S. History since others like Physics are totally different than the AP test.

Still, the way the 2 exams are scored make the percentiles incomparable.

These two tests were, at least for me, extremely different. I felt as if the SAT was much harder than the AP, and ended up getting a 540 my first try, yet I got a 3 on the AP exam. They’re incomparable.
