Subject Test Scores

As a STEM major looking at some fairly competitive schools, would these subject test scores be worth submitting if they are not required?

700 Math I, 680 US History, 670 Chemistry

Also, would it be worth taking Math II in the fall?

It’s much easier to get an 800 on Math II than on Math I, so shoot for an 800 (or high-700s) in at least one Subject Test.

Define “fairly competitive.” For ivies (and baby ivies), I wouldn’t (if you have an ACT that suffices), except maybe the Math I. For most lesser schools, yes.

I’d say check out:

<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools;

Use that to judge. Might want to compare it to your SAT score percentile.

You usually take the subject test to prove you have particular knowledge or ability in a subject area, so submitting a score where you’re only in the 57th percentile (like your 670 on chem) isn’t exactly helpful.

Math II is MUCH more common for STEM majors. For a STEM major, I wouldn’t even recommend taking Math I, much less submitting it, as the subject material it covers is lower-level and it suggests that you weren’t comfortable with/avoided Math II.
