Subject tests for Cokcrell and the School of Natural Science are required??????

In my application form I chose McCombs as a first choice and Cockrell ( Chem Engineering ) as a second choice. However, I have not taken any subject tests because my friend told me that UT Austin did not require that. Today she told me that Cockrell and the Chemistry department of the School of Natural Science require the subject tests.

Can anyone confirm, please?

I don’t have personal experience with either college, so all I can offer is what I found digging around on the internet. I couldn’t find anything about subject tests for McCombs, so I think you’re safe there, but here’s where Cockrell and Natural Sciences require either the SAT subject tests for Math or an equivalent:

You would probably be best served by contacting the admissions office just to confirm what they will and will not need for your application. From what I can gather, the subject tests are just to determine college-level math course readiness, not true requirements for admittance to the college.

Also, here is the contact information for the Chem dept. - I couldn’t find anything additional about SAT subject tests (like if they require one for chemistry) so you should email them just to be on the safe side/ease your mind.

Thank you so much sundoll. :):)

I’m considering applying to Virginia Tech Chemical Engineering program as well. They don’t require SAT subject tests for students like me…

I’ve just sent an email to the admission office… :)

If you don’t hear back from the general admissions office, you could try emailing the admissions officer who is in charge of your high school.

MidwestMom2Kids, the mailing addresses sundoll gave me were all for current freshman students so they emailed me back and gave me another address and I’ve sent my inquires but they haven’t replied yet.

I’m an international ( Saudi ) student so there is no one in charge for admissions. :(

thanks for passing by :):)

Ruby, you only have to take a math readiness exam. You can either take an SAT 2 in either Math 1 or 2, or you can take the test that UT has on their website. You don’t have to have taken them by the time you apply, you just have to take it before you come. Check the UT website, it is all explained.

There are also other methods to show math readiness, like a good grade in AP Calc, etc.

here it is:

Ohhhhh!! great news I guess…

Thank you so much ag54…
so if I am not mistaken, an SAT 1 Math score of 600+ is enough???<< sorry but I just had the longest day at school ever!!! my brain has literally stopped working -_-

thanks again… that’s a relief :)

Yes, that will do for now, but before you come (if you are accepted) you will have to take a math readiness test or comply with one of the other methods.

You can take one of the tests (I’m not sure what it’s called, but natural sciences uses it too) online, and supposedly, it’s pretty easy.

GREAT!!.. Thank you sooo much!!!

::cough:: that information was on the BeALonghorn pages I sent ya. Glad you don’t have to do anything extra!

The GIAC people will help international students - maybe this is the contact information they gave you?
Good luck!

Natural Sciences requires the online Alecks placement test. All students take it, even those with AP or college credit for calculus and those who have taken SAT IIs in math. After admission, my son received an email telling him he had to take it before orientation. The student’s score on the Aleks test determines their math placement.

That’s the other test I was talking about, the Aleks test. Engineering is using that one as well this year, even though it doesn’t tell you that on the website. They told us at the engineeringto take it instead of the SAT 2, if you hadn’t already taken the SAT subject tests.

I see =D
Well, I’m falling in love with UT Austin day after day XD <3<3…
I really hope I get admitted. I’ve started working on my essays, I know I’m late but my senior year schedule rocks so I have like extra free time for them and for SAT preparations ( I’m retaking it this Dec  )…

sundoll, midwestmom2kids, ag54 and cpq1xtup, many thanks to you guys, I appreciate your help. =D
