Subject tests

HI – is Georgetown the only school that requires three SAT subject tests? And, how important are they in the application, I mean, besides having done three rather than the usual two, in the first place.

Georgetown, AFAIK, is the only US college that “strongly recommends” 3 Subject Tests in addition to SAT/ACT for applicants graduating from a traditional HS. Johns Hopkins used to ask for 3, but now they only ask for 2.

NYU asks for 3 Subject Tests as an option to SAT/ACT. Additionally some colleges require/recommend 3 for home-schooled students.

Thanks, @skieurope ; you’re a font of information. Do you also know how important the subject tests are as part of the overall application?

You can’t put a percentage breakdown on importance for such colleges. IMO. it’s less important than grades and SAT’s, but that’s only my opinion.

FWIW, according Compass Test Prep in their online guide (page 6), subject test scores are dead last (14%) in terms of admission factors. They use the “2015 NACAC State of College Admissions” as its source.

I’ll bet in Georgetown’s case, they’re FAR more important, since they require three of them.

Thank you, @sushiritto. I love your screenname.

@sushiritto This is for you, in case you want to make yourself an avatar! https://www.zomato.com/beirut/sushi-burrito-ashrafieh

I’m actually getting one this evening for dinner. <:-P

When I was at the admitted student weekend, the dean of admissions told us that one of the reasons why they don’t get as many applications as, say, the Ivies, is because they purposely make their application more difficult to do by requiring 3 subjects and making their own application. This is to make sure that the people who apply actually want to go to Georgetown. Subject tests are important, but if you mess one up or only send two, it probably won’t sink your application.

That’s interesting, @masquerade98 – thanks so much. It sounds like Georgetown isn’t interested in playing that yield protection/stats fluffing game a lot of other schools do.

Probably not a good idea to only send in two subject tests if they ask for three…I’ll deal with that next year, I only have a rising junior and by this time next year who knows what she’ll be thinking, anyway.

@JenJenJenJen Yeah it always looks better to send all three, but if your DD applies EA they don’t care as much because they know there isn’t as much time to take all three.

Middleberry is another school that allows you to submit three subject tests instead of ACT\SAT.

^ Colorado College likewise.

@londondad Funny you should mention that, my D17 will start there very soon! But she just sent her ACT score.
