Sublet a dorm or rent a bed?

Can students rent out a bed in their dorm room for 6 weeks in the summer?

I just found out that my son made it past round 1 in the internship selections at Vanderbilt.

I have an old friend who lives in Nashville that I was hoping my son could rent a room from if accepted to this internship. But after searching Facebook I see that my friend is having a midlife crisis and enjoying the single life again. I'm wondering if a dorm room is an option?

Is dorm housing a scarcity at Vanderbilt? There is no housing offered by the summer research program and it says you have to provide your own supervised housing. He is still a minor at 17 so maybe the sponsoring department does not want to be responsible for minors.

Has anyone faced this problem of making living arrangements in Nashville?

My son is a high school junior and will begin his senior year after completing the 6 weeks of summer research at Vanderbilt (if he gets accepted.)

They don’t provide any kind of housing? That seems odd…

It’s possible to sublet over the summer; usually runs around $600-700+ per month depending on the apartment complex/how many people you’re living with.

There’s Lewis & Morgans ([Intern Housing | Office of Conferences | Vanderbilt University](http://www.vanderbilt.edu/conferences/intern-housing/)) as well. ($35 single/$25 double per night). The department has to pay for it though.
