D was selected to do VUSE summer research and we are trying to secure housing.
The problem with the academic intern housing is that it starts late May and she may want to start her project right away after spring semester ends. Anyway knows the workaround? I am going to give them a call tomorrow too!
There’s a chance they could be flexible with her and let her move in early so it’s definitely worth asking, but I’m skeptical as to whether they’ll permit it. Students aren’t all out until graduation half-way through May, and they wait until this point before they start to turn over (check/clean/repair) the rooms which takes some time, so late May is kind of the earliest availability for them.
Your best bet would be to try to sublet an apartment for a month - law/MBA students with summer internships and med students on away rotations often rent their places out for short periods of time. Most of these would be for multiple months, but a few might be fine with May only. The best places to look would be craigslist (under the “sublets and temporary” page) or the Vanderbilt classifieds page (https://www.vanderbilt.edu/classifieds/).
DH drove down and they looked at some apartments yesterday from Vandy classified. And they signed with a law student. Thank you so much @fdgjfg! It was great advice! D is actually staying in the same apartment for the whole summer or 11 weeks - 10 weeks plus one week break in between…she is getting a one bedroom for the price of sharing a room at Summer Intern Housing.
Thanks again and wait for my annual class registration post D has a later registration, and she is thinking discrete math, data structure and double up bio and org chem.
