Submission of Common App AND Supplement Necessary to Request Interview?

I recently found out that the Rice app needs to be submitted by December 1st to request an interview by December 3rd. From my understanding, it also seems that an interview is pretty essential to getting admitted (someone can tell me if that's not true). My question is, for those wiser than me who did this ahead of time, do you have to submit the supplement portion of the Rice app in addition to the regular portion of the Common App to get access to the "Student Portal" and request an interview? From reading their website (<a href="https://futureowls.rice.edu/futureowls/Off_Campus_Interview.asp">https://futureowls.rice.edu/futureowls/Off_Campus_Interview.asp</a>) it's still a bit unclear to me.

The interview helps, but is NOT required to get in. However it is helpful, so definitely try to do one.

My understanding is just the common app. If unsure, give Rice a call tomorrow

I’m actually in the exact same boat (and just send admissions an email in hopes to find out)…
Did you find out if the supplements are needed?

Thanks Antarius for your response. Calfromcal, I’m probably going to give them a call tomorrow (though I’d say don’t let that stop you from calling them yourself as I may not have a chance). I’ll let you know what they tell me if I’m able to call and you can do the same if they reply to your email.

Please post what they say in this thread. I am panicking over the supplement!!!

I was under the assumption that both needed to be done, as “Off campus interview requests are processed through the Rice Admission Student Portal, which is activated once an application for admission has been received by the Office of Admission.” I could be wrong through. Regardless, it pushed me to get all of my supplements out of the way, so that’s good :D.

Hey paintsplatterla, like I was saying to calfromcal, best idea is to give em a call yourself tomorrow. After a long conversation I had with my parents it looks like I’m probably not going to apply. Rice was more of a side interest since they had waived my app fee (I’ve already applied ED to Davidson and my 2nd/3rd choices are other schools) and I was kinda considering it for the wrong reasons.

That being said, best of luck to you two. Definitely call tomorrow and post what you find here for anyone else who might be inquiring.

Can anyone who’s already submitted their app comment on how quickly the Student Portal opens up?

I submitted JUST the common app about 3 pm PT and gained access to the portal about 5 am

Called and confirmed. You do NOT need to submit the supplement. Only the main common app portion.

I double checked and the lady said that the supplement will still be due Jan. 1
